The Tochato App Runs in Your Browser

There is no file to download and no store to search. Tochato opens in the browser on your phone, and one menu option puts its icon on your home screen.

Where do I get the Tochato app?

You already have it. Open tochato.cam in your phone browser, then choose Add to Home Screen from the browser menu if you want an icon.

Is there a Tochato app to download?

No, and you do not need one. Tochato is a web app: the whole thing runs inside the browser your phone already has. There is no installer, no store listing and no file to fetch. Open the site and you are using the app.

Most chat products live in a store. This one skipped the store on purpose. A page that opens in a tab is quicker to try, takes none of your storage, and never nags you to update. If you like having an icon to tap, the next section gets you one in under a minute.

On a phone you may see a "Get Tochato App" prompt near the bottom of a page. It is the same thing this page describes: a shortcut that puts the site on your home screen, not a file from a store. Accept it or follow the manual steps below; you end up with the same icon.

How do you add Tochato to your home screen?

Through your browser's own menu. The result is an icon that opens the site full screen, without the address bar, so it looks and behaves like an installed app. The four steps are the same idea on every phone; the table under them gives the exact wording for iPhone and Android.

  1. 01

    Open tochato.cam in your browser

Use Safari on an iPhone or Chrome on an Android phone.

  2. 02

    Open the browser menu

On iPhone tap the Share button; on Android tap the three-dot menu.

  3. 03

    Choose Add to Home Screen

Confirm the name. A Tochato icon appears on your home screen.

  4. 04

    Tap the icon

The site opens full screen, like an app, and you can start chatting.

What works on a phone, and what's better on a laptop?

Everything works on both. The same site adapts to the screen, so there is no cut-down mobile version. The difference is comfort.

On a phone, a match fills the screen and feels like a video call with a friend; it is the natural way to chat from a sofa or a bed. A laptop gives you a bigger picture, a steadier camera angle and a proper keyboard, which matters if you type a lot or use the translated messages. You can browse Who's online on a phone and move to a laptop for a longer conversation.

Why skip the app store at all?

Because every step between you and a conversation loses people, and a store adds several: search, download, wait, open, grant permissions, then sign up. A link does it in one. For a site whose promise is that you can talk to someone right now, that matters.

It also keeps things light. Nothing sits on your phone using space when you are not chatting, and you are always on the current version because there is only one. The same thinking is behind arriving as a guest, which the page on chat rooms with no registration explains.

What will your browser ask about the camera and microphone?

Whether tochato.cam may use them. The first time you start a match, the browser shows that prompt, and your answer is stored in the browser. Say Allow and most browsers will not ask again; say Block and video matches will not work until you change it.

To change your mind later, tap the icon beside the address bar, or look under site settings in the browser, and switch camera and microphone back on. On an iPhone the system Settings app also has a camera permission for the browser itself.

Is a mobile chat room any different?

Only in how it feels in your hand. A mobile chat room on Tochato has the same two people, the same message box and the same controls as on a computer. What changes is posture: hold the phone at eye level, face a window or a lamp, and prop it against something if the call runs long. A shaky, backlit picture makes a first minute harder than it needs to be.

For the full sequence from opening the site to a first hello, see how Tochato works.

Does it use much data?

Video uses far more than text, as with any call. Browsing the who's-online list and typing messages is light. A live video chat is comparable to a video call in any messenger, so on a limited mobile plan it is sensible to use Wi-Fi for long conversations.

If the picture stutters, your connection is the likely cause. Move closer to the router or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and close anything else that is downloading. You can start again from the home page whenever you are ready.

FAQ

Tochato app questions

How do I download the Tochato app?

There is no Tochato app download. Open tochato.cam in your phone's browser and use it there. To get an icon, choose Add to Home Screen from the browser menu.

Is there a mobile chat room that needs no install?

Yes. Tochato is a mobile chat room that runs in the browser. Nothing is installed, and it works the same on a phone as on a computer.

How do I remove the icon from my home screen?

The same way you remove any shortcut: press and hold the icon and choose Remove or Delete. Nothing else needs uninstalling, and the site still opens in your browser.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes. Open the site in Safari, allow the camera and microphone when asked, and it works. You can add it to your home screen from the Share menu.

Is there an APK?

No. We do not publish an installer file of any kind. If a site offers a Tochato APK, it did not come from us, and you should not install it.

Does it work on a tablet or laptop?

Yes. The site adapts to any screen with a modern browser, a camera and a microphone. A laptop is comfortable for long chats and for typing.

Do I need to update it?

No. Because it is a website, you always get the current version when you open it. There is nothing to update by hand.

Does the home screen icon take up storage?

Hardly any. The icon is a shortcut to the site, not a full installed app, so it uses a tiny amount of space.
